A Scotsman living in Japan
I began my online money making adventure with my site that aims to help people looking for ALT jobs in Japan, ALT Directory. It is a subscription based service for people looking for above average Assistant Language Teaching jobs in Japan. I'm an ALT myself and have a network of contacts here in Japan so I definitely have value to offer with this site.
Unlike a niche blog that some people may not want to publicise, I want to get the word out about my job information service to as many people as possible. This site though is not a passive income site. I still have to track down high paying jobs and notify the subscribers on my mailing list. As long as I can provide quality information to my subscribers, I have a good "product" that provides value. Ideally I want to help my subscribers land jobs paying 20% or more above the standard rate of pay for many teachers working in Japan.
Now I have decided to start some sites based on my other interests that may generate some revenue via Google Adsense. The idea that I will be able to make money blogging is really exciting. The question is how best to go about making money online? The best internet marketing guide I have read is Griz's make money for beginners site.
My passive income blogging adventure began with some internet research about how to make money online. There are some excellent free websites that can help anyone looking to start making money online.
The best of which is Grizz's make money site that discusses the process of selecting keywords around which to build a site based on their search frequency, earning potential and ease of ranking highly in Google searches. For my own niche website I added another condition, something that I am actually interested in. This site is a great resource to get into if you are wanting to discover the best ways to make money online. He is an expert with a proven track record. Not just of giving out advice but actually making tons of money in a whole host of niches, including the hyper competitive make money online niche.
Combined with niche marketing and keyword optimization it appears that you can create profitable passive income blogs in a specific niche. See part 2 of this series for the specific steps I carried out while researching my blog topic. These are things that all internet marketers do using a variety of software tools, both free and paid.
While I certainly learned about internet marketing from sites like The Keyword Academy, I think it will require learning on my own with plenty of trial and error, using all that I have learned, before I can succeed in making passive income online.
Why is that?
For one, the niche I chose is something I am actually interested in beyond its money making potential. This doesn't seem to be a requirement of internet marketing. In fact being too interested in your subject may have an adverse effect on its earning potential. Two, my first attempt at a passive income blog doesn't seem to be in a particularly profitable niche. This would put many a veteran off instantly. However for a beginner it may well prove to be valuable experience in building a site from scratch. Then working to raise its profile amongst the search engines. There are literally tons of articles online outlining methods that help win a higher Google ranking.
No matter that I won't make my fortune from my first attempt at passive income blogging As a blogging beginner I still have plenty to learn. So starting out with a project I am interested in will keep me motivated even if I don't become a millionaire by the end of the year.
