A Scotsman living in Japan

What do you think of this watch? Just recently I have started to think that having my own luxury timepiece such as this TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch would be a really fashionable accessory. Now, we all know that decent watches are not cheap. However, this model is a lot more reasonably priced than some of the watches that they make. To be honest, it is not the price tag that makes me want this type of watch. I think the styling is really nice and it is a good compromise between extravagant expense and top quality craftsmanship. The Aquaracer range are in effect luxury sports watches. So we do not need to worry about protecting them from getting splashed by water. In fact, this style is actually water proof up to depths of 300m. Now, who's going to buy me one for my birthday?

As I live in Japan, when I decided to buy a car I felt the best option was to buy a Japanese product. A colleague introduced me to a local car dealership who I'm sure made some good money off me but continue to provide excellent customer service and after sales support. The model I went for was the new Mazda Demio. In Europe I think this is called a Mazda 2. For a long time I was anti car due to their impact on the environment. However I now think that including an interest in cars as one of my hobbies is not such a bad thing. My opinion that pollution from cars not being good for the environment remains but I simply don't care enough to not drive a car.
My Demio was the first new car that I have ever purchased and I am absolutely in love with it. It took a little extra time to be delivered as they had to put a special order in as I wanted a manual transmission. Had I opted for automatic I could have taken delivery a week earlier. However as I grew up driving manual cars I felt happier continuing the trend. When I learned to drive my instructor owned a Nissan and it was a great car to start on. So perhaps I should have known that my Demio would also be a pleasure to drive.
Petrol or gas as they call it in Japan is much cheaper than the U.K. It is almost half the price! I still have over two years before I complete paying off my car loan. My driving habits are also fairly tame and I am on target for under 10,000 km for the first two years of ownership. In the future when I decide to purchase another car, I will certainly go for a Japanese brand assuming I am still here. Next time though I think I will check out some high performance cars. There are some amazing cars like the Nissan Skyline and Mazda RX8.
